Within the framework of the declaration of 2021 as the European Year of the Railway, various European states, including Spain, agreed to promote international rail transport.

The European Commission also committed in its Mobility Strategy and its Green Deal to support initiatives to decarbonise transport, a goal for which the further development of the railway could be key. Moreover, in the post-covid framework, the recovery plans can be the economic backbone that allow states to finance projects oriented to support this goal.

European governments must act now and implement the right policies to promote a railway renaissance that provides mutual benefits: additional investment in new or renovated trains, refurbish or construction of railway stations, job creation, strengthening of railway networks, upgrade national and regional infrastructure and connections and, above all, reducing transport emissions by 90% by 2050.

Within the European initiative Europe on Rail, the Ecology and Development Foundation, ECODES, and eco-union association, as Spanish partners, bring together in this webinar government representatives, public and private entities involved in the development of rail transport in order to learn about the present and future of the network and Spanish cross-border passenger connections.
