An ambitious presidency for a resilient Europe
eco-union, together with other environmental organisations, has produced a position paper calling on the Spanish government to set an agenda that meets the urgent needs of decarbonisation during its term in the Presidency of the EU Council. The Fit for 55 package gives us the opportunity to put the European Union at the forefront of the fight against the climate crisis, in line with the objectives set by the European Green Pact. It is also a strategic requirement for maintaining the competitiveness of our economies in the new global scenario.
Spain has been committed to clean energy from the outset. The presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2023 is the ideal scenario for the country to make progress in this energy crisis, since thanks to its advantageous position it will be able to quickly benefit from the decarbonisation of transport and buildings. We trust in the Spanish government’s vision to prioritise the green and just transition during its term in office.
