From eco-union we want to share the workshop report of the Blue Eco Forum 2019, held last Thursday 14 November at the Poblenou Campus of the Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona). The workshop, organized as part of the Blue Tourism project, was attended by twenty participants from different organizations, such as Barcelona City Council, Seastainable Ventures, Hidria, Submon and Arco Latino, among others. The central theme was the integration of the ecosystem approach towards sustainable coastal and maritime tourism in the Mediterranean.
Among the actions that were proposed in pursuit of this integration are mandatory ecological mooring, improvement of sanctioning procedures, coastal custody as management tool or training and education of tour operators. The participants also concluded that it is necessary to promote public participation and access to information in relation to agreements and political and environmental measures that integrate -or could integrate- the ecosystem approach into coastal and maritime tourism in the Mediterranean region, such as the Barcelona Convention.
