The Blue Tourism Initiative (BTI) & Our Blue Future (OBF) Innovation Teams are collaborating to assess the state of blue tourism in the Western Indian Ocean to boost cooperation in the sustainable blue tourism sector at local, national, regional, and international levels.
In the framework of this collaboration, eco-union and the other partners are organizing a Webinar on 20 April, at 10 am (CEST) / 11 am (Nairobi time) that aims to:
- Present the Blue Tourism Initiative and Innovation Team; objectives and planned work.
- Discuss with various public and private stakeholders in the WIO region to identify best practices and exchange ideas on potential knowledge gaps, which the Innovation Team could potentially help fill.
- Share information on current and upcoming projects and plans on sustainable Blue Tourism in which synergies for collaboration can be sought.
By gathering key institutions, tourism operators, researchers, and experts from several WIO countries, the webinar is an opportunity for the Blue Tourism Innovation team to present their work, collect information on different approaches for blue tourism in the region, and map potential partners for the implementation of their work.
The main topics that will be discussed during the session are the following: governance and planning mechanisms, environmental regulations and management, distribution of benefits, and diversification of tourism, among others.
